How we work
Our experienced brand designers can create a heritage inspired logo for your you or your business
Inspired by your family history or your established brand story - our talented designers and illustrators have created countless logos for brands with a rich and intriguing past.
The discovery phase
It all starts with a conversation. Working closely with you, we’ll conduct heritage research but also discover more about ‘what’ you do, ‘how’ you did it and above all, ‘why’. We’ll perform our own research into your history and make recommendations for how we could incorporate it into your family brand.
The creative process
During the design phase we’ll explore a number of creative directions, all undergoing a thorough process of iteration and refinement before being presented to you alongside a range of example applications of the brand in order for you to examine the proposed design ‘in action’. We’ll then develop your preferred design until you’re happy with the finished logo design.

Brand guidelines & assets
With the launch of any brand, consistency is key to its success. With your design developed and approved, we can produce a comprehensive set of brand guidelines that will outline how the updated branding should be used from this point forward. This will be supported by a logo pack containing all variations, brand assets and file formats optimised for both print and screen use.
Using your new crest design
You will of course be free to use your new bespoke family crest design however you would like and we are available to assist you with a variety of deliverables should you wish.
This includes print solutions such as branded flags and banners, merchandise and promotional items, embroidered clothing, ties, pin badges, stationery such as letterheads, business cards, branded pens and more. It also extends to more architectural items such as stone/wood carvings, signage and wall murals for example.
The possibilities are endless so let us know if you'd like to discuss how you can make the most out of your new crest design.

Insights

Have you ever wondered about the stories hidden within your family history? At Root Studio, we believe that every family has a unique tale waiting to be told and there's no better way to capture it than through a bespoke family crest design.

'Blanding' is a term used to describe the recent trend of creating remarkably similar, indistinguishably ‘modern’ brands typified by a simple sans serif logotype and simplified iconography. In essence, the mantra is ‘less is more’ with the goal of blending in… but is this at the cost of something deeper and more profound?

How many layers is there to your brand? A logo might catch the eye but, without a solid brand strategy, is it just a pretty picture? Build a brand that connects, inspires and stands the test of time.
Frequently asked questions
How much does a family crest logo design cost?
Our family crest design fees can vary from client to client depending on your specification. As a rough guide our branding fees start at around £1,800+VAT.
How many logo design concepts will I receive?
Typically we would share up to 3 logo concepts for review.
How many revisions are included?
Up to three rounds of revisions as standard within our design contracts. Additional changes after this point are evaluated and estimated based on their complexity (we will never charge you extra without permission).
What file formats are contained within a logo pack?
As standard, each logo pack will contain infinitely scalable vector graphics (.eps & .pdf files) as well as optimised raster images (.jpeg & transparent .png). We’ll share files set to CMYK and RGB for print/screen use and will also export a set of social media avatar images for you to use.
What format does a brand guidelines document come as?
A set of brand guidelines and its associated assets can take many forms - from a printed document to a PDF or even a microsite with downloadable assets.
I am outside of the UK, how would this work?
No problem, we have many overseas clients and meet regularly via video call. All estimates and bills are provided in GBP and can be paid via bank transfer or credit card.
How do you bill for a logo design?
After a design contract has been agreed we will send over a deposit invoice for between 25-50% of the project fee (subject to requirements). The remaining balance will be billed on completion. All invoices are subject to our standard 30 day payment terms.
