Mission Burrito launches three new restaurants!

Tom Bradley

Independent fast food chain, Mission Burrito has launched two new restaurants in Birmingham and another at Leicester’s High Cross. The opening of the three new stores comes just a few months after launching their sixth restaurant in Cardiff’s city centre, making nine in total. Their latest in Leicester is of particular interest to Tom and Lydia in the studio as it’s their home town, it’s also another step closer to Lincoln… maybe we’re next!

We’ve been working with Mission Burrito for a number of years now on some fantastic projects including quirky illustrations, thumb wrestling cards, lucha libre character designs, signage, t-shirts and more. In fact you can check out some of our latest Mission Burrito projects here. For the set-up of the latest stores the team have collaborated with Bristol-based interior design agency, Simple Simon to create a fantastic new look for the chain going forwards. We’ve been big fans of Simple Simon for a while now and we were very pleased to hear that they were joining the team! Their enthusiasm and creative flair shines through and their rustic concepts are an ideal match for the Mission Burrito brand that we’ve been developing over the last few years.

The designs of the new restaurants have incorporated some of the artwork we’ve already produced for their other venues including a bold menu board display, a hand-painted typographic map of San Francisco and the familiar paper-based menus and leaflets that you’ll recognise from our own portfolio section. On top of this Lydia has also created a series of stunning artworks to help decorate the new spaces. Lydia’s wall graphics include stylish representations of brands associated with the restaurant (such as the Cholula hot sauce and Corona lager) as well as a selection of iconic San Francisco landmarks to help highlight the company’s origins.

That’s right, most people would think of a Burrito restaurant as serving traditional Mexican cuisine, however Mission Burrito (as its name suggests) celebrates the founders’ obsession with San Francisco’s Mission District taquerias after spending time living in the area. The Mission-style burrito became popular in San Francisco back in the 1960s and has since become legendary. In comparison to other burritos, its large size, extra rice and other tasty ingredients and traditional foil wrap set it apart. This distinction has helped the Mission Burrito chain gain somewhat of a cult following since setting up in the UK and its loyal customers truly value its authenticity.

We urge anyone reading this to visit their local Mission Burrito restaurant immediately! With stores already situated in Reading, Oxford (x 2), Cardiff, Bristol, Birmingham (x 2), Bath and Leicester, burrito-fever is sweeping the nation! Also keep an eye out for new work to be added to the portfolio soon.
