The Bosworth 1485 Trail is a heritage sculpture trail that brings the story of the Battle of Bosworth back into the surrounding battlefield landscape and historic villages. It helps visitors explore how the battle unfolded and what has been discovered since through archaeological work in the area.
For the project, we created the logo design, brand identity, illustration style, maps and trail interpretation signage.
The visual approach needed to feel historic and atmospheric, so we developed a bold, handcrafted style inspired by medieval mark-making, battlefield symbolism and linocut illustration.
Turning battlefield symbolism into a recognisable brand
At the heart of the identity is a circular trail mark, designed to feel like a wayfinding symbol, seal and archaeological find.
Its pointer forms represent the route, locations and landmarks along the trail; the arrows reference the battlefield and the roses connect to the Wars of the Roses.
Handcrafted illustrations to guide the story
This identity was carried through a series of linocut-style illustrations, illustrated maps and landscape scenes, helping to turn complex history into clear, engaging visitor storytelling.
Durable signage for a historic landscape
The physical interpretation signage combined corten steel with aluminium panels, with laser-cut branding integrated into the structures to create a durable, distinctive presence across the route.
