On the 1st October 2017, our little studio turned 10 years old and we thought this was a great opportunity to look back on the history of the studio and also give the brand a bit of a face lift!
How it all began...
Tom and Lydia started Root Studio in October 2007 (the same year the first ever iPhone launched). Fresh from university, the pair hit the ground running working primarily with local start ups and producing design for print in a range of formats. The duo had particular skills in graphic design and illustration that complimented each other and still helps to create Root Studio's signature creative style today.

The Root Studio partners back in 2010 (before the wrinkles started to appear)
A few years later they were joined by Lea, a good friend from university who had been running his own solo studio, Tidy Graphics down in Oxfordshire. Together they formed the partnership that you see today. Lea's presence in the studio brought with it a strong interest in the world of digital marketing and web design.
The team grew further in 2012 with the addition of James, our skilled web developer. Since then our web development capabilities have gone from strength to strength, pushing the boundaries of modern web design. We're now looking to add to the team again with roles now available for a graphic designer and web developer.

Awards & recognition
Over its ten year history the studio has received a number of awards for graphic design and web development including a Lincs Digital Award: 'Innovation in Web Design' for our redesign of the Lincolnshire Show website. In addition to this our work has been well received by our peers with past projects featuring in a wide range of high street design magazines and design reference books. As if that wasn't enough, our web design portfolio is regularly included in blog posts and inspiration sites worldwide (apparently we're quite popular in Russia and Japan - so Здравствуйте and こんにちは to everyone out there!!).
Our clients
We've worked with a wide variety of businesses of all shapes and sizes since we opened our doors and every day in the studio really is different to the last. In recent years we've also expanded our reach overseas with new projects coming from the mainland Europe, USA, Russia and Nigeria. We've been lucky enough to work with some big national players such as Chester Zoo, Wilkin Chapman and Mission Burrito as well as working with a huge number of start-up businesses ready to become household names in their own right!

Rebranding Root Studio
The previous studio branding had remained unchanged until now but with our 10 year anniversary approaching and a new website in the pipeline we decided to refresh the brand to more accurately reflect the studio's modern approach, extended global reach and greater experience. Our new logotype is super-slick, clean and contemporary and more in line with our current work than the previous serif face. The brand still makes use of a wide colour palette rather than a single core colour but the full range has also been given a refresh.
The biggest change for the brand is a step away from our signature illustrative style. Our new direction has made for a lighter feeling website that feels more like a contemporary gallery space for our work, whilst creative flourishes like the use of video and transitional effects retain our innovative twist.
Thanks everyone!
In the last 10 years we've created over 100 new brands and launched 172 inspiring websites, all whilst brewing 15,240 cups of coffee! It's been an absolute pleasure and we look forward to seeing what the next decade has in store for us! A big thank you to all our amazing clients :)
