A new website for LOROS Hospice, Leicester

Website design for LOROS Hospice Leicester

We've just launched a brand new website for important Leicestershire charity, LOROS Hospice... and it's a big one!

Founded over 30 years ago, LOROS Hospice has been striving to provide innovative, high-quality and free compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients and their families across Leicestershire and Rutland. Their new website is both an extension of their forward-thinking approach to care, training and fundraising but also a testament to their ongoing achievements and dedication.

User Journey Mapping

In the early phases of the project we opened up the discovery process to LOROS staff members by inviting both carers and non-patient-facing teams to join us in several interactive workshops discussing typical website users and their habits and journeys across the website (as well as their interactions with LOROS in general).

Using this information alongside our own technical and analytical data we proposed a set of personas, empathy maps and user journey maps to assist us in ensuring that the website served its users in the right ways at the right times and delivered according to their respective values and goals.

Website concepts

Using this information along with a comprehensive brief from the LOROS marketing team we developed a range of concepts for the new homepage that each took their own unique approach to achieving their many goals. These concepts were shared as interactive prototypes for both desktop and mobile users to ensure that each potential design suited users no matter how they were accessing the site.

A full website prototype

Developing an interactive prototype for a website of this scale with such a variety of page templates required presents a number of challenges. As with all our websites however, by creating a bespoke style guide for the site we have been able to produce a consistent visual language across the board that allows for a seamless flow from section to section.

A practical and flexible CMS

Of course, creating a website is just the start of the journey for LOROS - in order for their web presence to be a true success it's vital that the team are able to manage the content of the website quickly and easily. This includes full content editing capabilities, file management, event and course scheduling and ability to update the page structure. Creating new pages is flexible by design too and, with options to build up pages from top to bottom, the LOROS team can create unique layouts across the site whilst maintaining that brand consistency throughout (rather than sticking to a few predetermined page layouts).

This is just the beginning

"It's been fantastic working with Root Studio start to finish. Tom, Lea and the team worked with us to redevelop our website which was complex with a high number of distinct goals and audiences.

The team were incredibly insightful when it came to understanding what we and our users needed. Everyone was responsive and helpful right from the research phase, during design and implementation, all the way through to launch and beyond.

I couldn't recommend Root Studio enough and look forward to working with them in the future."

Working with LOROS has been a real pleasure and we look forward to continuing to monitor, review and enhance their website for years to come. Check out the website for yourself here.
