Doddington Hall is one of Lincolnshire's most loved destinations. A late Elizabethan mansion that's been a cherished family home for over 400 years - and today it's so much more than that. Farm shop, café, events venue, walled gardens and now a growing nature recovery project spanning the wider estate. It's a place with a lot of stories to tell.
We've been working with Doddington on a retainer basis for some time now, supporting everything from brand development and guidelines to brochures, sub-brands, signage, illustrated maps and more. We've also created interpretation and trail signage for Wilder Doddington - their ambitious nature connection and habitat recovery project.
Brand guardians for Doddington Hall
Working with a brand like Doddington's brings a lot of responsibility. This is a living brand rooted in hundreds of years of history and genuine character. Our job isn't to reinvent the space, it's to help protect and develop it as the estate grows and evolves.
On a day-to-day basis that means being on hand to ensure every new piece of communication - whether it's a menu, a leaflet or a new sub-brand - feels consistent, considered and unmistakably Doddington.
Wilder Doddington trail signage
Wilder Doddington is Doddington Hall's nature recovery project - rewilding parts of the wider estate and inviting visitors to explore and connect with it.
We created a comprehensive trail and interpretation scheme to bring that story to life, covering wayfinding, habitat storytelling, agricultural heritage and wildlife information.
All the signage is fabricated from aluminium with custom steel frames, with original linocut-style illustrations throughout (including species, habitats, agricultural scenes and illustrated maps), keeping the scheme feeling cohesive across the whole estate.
Visitor understanding
Before a single sign was designed, we ran a series of workshops with the Doddington team to define visitor personas and map out the visitor journey. Understanding who would actually be walking these trails, and what they needed to take away from the experience, shaped everything that followed.
From there, we created all the content for the scheme ourselves. The stories, messaging, tone and the structure of the trail narrative - all written and developed from scratch by our team to make the nature recovery story as accessible and engaging as possible for every type of visitor.
